"Narrative Criticism"
In this movie the world has been so overcome with trash and debris that the people of earth had to leave in to space in a giant space ship. Wall - E the main character is one of millions of little robots that are supposed to be cleaning up the litter and looking for signs of plant life on earth. Little Wall - E is not like the rest of his companion robots, he has developed a personality and a curious one at that. he ends up on this ship filled with the rest of human life, but every single person on this ship is morbidly obese and they are completely lazy. no longer does anyone walk, swim, run, or move at that. they are all mobilized around on these little chairs that hover and take them everywhere they go. Every person has become so lazy there is not a single human doing any kind of work, all work is done by robots on the ship as well. this is where Eva comes in she is one of those robots and her and Wall - E become friends on this ship. at a certain point in the movie it shows in the captains cockpit the pictures of all the captains before the captain who is in charge of the ship now, and in these pictures the captains start out skinny and little by little they keep getting bigger and bigger, so we see a timeline presented to us there in that we see how many captains there have been before him so we know they have been on this ship for many many years. The way i see it is that the director of this movie is making a point in saying that not only have we become dirty and disrespectful people that our mother earth is being destroyed, but also that we are completely lazy in that there are more obese people than ever before. i think that Wall -E and Eva are kind of a good vs. evil in that they are trying to make a change and get the ship back to earth where people can work and move around and fill the fresh air and see that there are many reasons for them to be mobile on there own. there are a couple events here "active" being that Wall - E and Eva are trying are fighting against the laziness and the "stative" being the portrayal of earth being overcome with litter. in the end Wall - E and Eva have accomplished there mission of getting the ship back to earth where the people actually get up off there behinds and start walking around and looking at there surroundings outside of the ship. They made a change and made it for the better. the point being that we need to make a change our selves, we need to exercise and teach our children to exercise, we need to recycle and use receptacles for our garbage before we destroy gods beautiful earth.
